Understanding Electronic Connectors In A Nutshell

Electronic connectors are implemented in a wide range of appliances and devices for the purpose of linking wires, chips, boards and other equipments to various power sources of to one another. Frequently used connectors in the commercial world of electronics include ring terminal, connector boards, phone jacks, audio/video adaptors and inter wire connectors.

There are majorly two types of connectors used, male, female or at times a combination of both. Female connectors are designed for the purpose of accepting pins, plugs and various inputs coming from a separate device. Male connectors have their own input points for functionality.
Terminals have insulated bases and they are used extensively to connect a variety of electrical applications. They can be modified to accommodate wires, clips and some other connectors as well. There are various methods to input them like clamping, soldering or screwing.

Other connectors include the card edge ones; they are attached to different circuit boards and can accept a wide range of input cards which include high-speed and current cards and also network cards.

There is a wide range of materials used to manufacture connectors. Non conductive materials are a major choice as they offer many linking and locking solutions for multiple fixtures. Dielectrics or also called insulators restrict the flow of electricity and their efficacy is a subject to the voltage from the source. Materials like Nomex, Teflon, Fiberglass, Formex and more are used as synthetics while insulators like porcelain, ceramics and glass are also used.

Electronic connectors are used in almost every industry, some notable industries are telecom, aerospace, military, automobile, electricals etc. While fiber optics are used in a major way in the telecommunications industry, they have a large number of advantages as compared to some other alternatives used for data transmission.

Suppliers and manufacturers alike make use of the comprehensive range of standardised or even customized connectors for their respective industry.
