How many categories are there in connectors?

Connectors are vital part of electronic devices. These help build connections between the components. There are several types of connectors are available and each of them is specifically designed considering different type of electronic devices.

There are some major reasons because of which every industry uses these connectors for running their application. To name a few of those reasons or properties like reliability, insulation, resistance to water, contact, vibration, pressure and ability to easily connect or disconnect etc.

Most commonly used connectors are hybrid, UHF, banana, BNC, 8P8C, USB, spade lugs terminals, radio frequency, and F-Type. There is further categorization of connectors, which is as follows-

Terminal blocks
-This is another type of connector that is commonly used in devices. Connection is made between wires without bonding them physically.

Plug and socket- It is referred to as male plug and female receptacle. Plug comprise of one or more pins, which are attached to sockets for its functioning in electronic device. This connector is commonly used in telephone, computer, and consumer appliances.

Component and device- component and device are two terminals used in electronic applications for connecting and disconnecting applications in electronic device.

Insulation displacement- Insulation often gets accumulated in wires. To remove it, insulation displacement connector is used in electronic applications. This connector is popularly used in telephone, computer, and networking industry.

Binding post-This connector is used to attach bare wires. This helps keep safe from the occurrence of electrical failure. Devices like loudspeakers and amplifiers comprise of these connectors. It comprises of two caps black and red, which indicate earth and negative terminals.

Blade- It is commonly used in electronic devices. One part of this connector is attached with single wire while other is attached with receptacle.

Crimp on-This connector is used when immediate disconnection or screwing of terminals is required. Majorly industries with big scale production use crimp on connectors for building fast connections. Devices with high radio frequencies use crimp on terminal.

Ring and spade- These terminals work in accordance with screw or bolt. Different sizes are available in it to serve variant need of industries. Insulated and non-insulated are two types of connectors, which are made of material like nylon, vinyl and heat shrinkable spades.

The aforementioned is categorization of terminals, which are widely used in electronic devices. However, each type is used based on the electronic device and industry purpose.
